I have seen this topic being discussed across forums and throughout the internet. Some people are asking if wearing a hat causes hair loss and some think balding is connected.
For the most part, I think the idea that hair loss is caused by wearing a hat is ludicrous and simply not true. Usually most hat types such as baseball caps, cowboy hats, or beret type hats do not put much of a strain on hair follicles.
There are some hats like the winter snow cap which is sometimes called a beanie which can put a strain on your hair follicles. I have noticed after wearing these for a period of time, that my hair will slightly hurt. Could these cause hair loss?
It is possible, but I still don’t think this is a likely reason that people have permanent hair loss. They might pull out a lot of hair through the winter time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it prevents the follicles from growing back.
Possible Reason to Believe Hats are Connected to Hair Loss
If you have ever looked at your ankles where your socks wrap around, it is likely that you have less hair there. This observation does make a good hypothesis that other items putting strain on your hair can lead to hair loss, but I don’t think this is permanent.
My suggestion is to be careful of wearing very tight hats like winter snow caps, but don’t count on this being a legitimate reason for Male Pattern Baldness. If you are going to wear a snow cap, use one that is not tight on your head and I think you will be safe.
